Dr.
Anwar Nasim a molecular geneticist- the science which involves
studying mechanisms which control heredity is a world renowned
Geneticist. An extremely humble and kind hearted individual
with tremendous contributions to literature apart from his
field of specialization, he is a multifaceted personality.
He has been described as a geneticist with lofty ideals, a
globe trotter for four decades. He obtained his Ph.D. from
University of Edinburgh. He spent twenty-three years in Canada
affiliated with the Federal research Organizations. He also
did some research work at Max Planck Institute, Tubingen,
Germany, and the Biology Department of Stanford University,
California USA. He spent four years doing research in King
Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh in the early nineties.
On return to Pakistan, he is presently Advisor Science in
COMSTECH, OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological
Cooperation and is chairman of the National Commission on
Biotechnology. He feels that scientific research must lead
to economic development and society must benefit from it.
NGIs (Non Government Individuals) is his brain child.
He
has been awarded Pride of Performance and Sitara-e-Imtiaz
by Government of Pakistan for his outstanding contributions
as a geneticist. He is a fellow of Third Word Academy of Sciences,
Islamic World Academy of Sciences, and fellow of Pakistan
Academy of Science. He received Overseas Pakistani’s
Institute (OPI) award for his outstanding services for promotion
of science in Pakistan. |
